Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

As a senior NPS Visitor Use Assistant, you will:
Collect appropriate fees at park entrance stations, visitor centers, campgrounds, iron rangers, automated fee machines and/or other visitor contact stations following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operate an electronic cash register, computer or Point of Sale (POS) system, perform opening and closing shift functions, issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, park passes and federal recreation passes in accordance with established guidelines. Complete shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift. Prepare remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Serve as front-line representative of the agency, responsible for providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest. Provide public orientation and explanations of current park events, resource management projects, management policies and legislative updates on issues affecting the natural, historical and/or cultural preservation of the area. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/04/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40
hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Qualifying specialized experience is:
providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report. This experience also included handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fee and stock data; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions. Your resume must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. You must provide transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Equivalent combination of over 60 semester hours/90 quarter hours of undergraduate level education AND professional experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must provide transcripts. --- Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
